This week "Anyone's for a bottle of brandy...." managed to score 138 in the Drouthy Neebors pub quiz, unfortunately another team scored 140.  Which means for the second week in a row, we lost by a single question.   I blame the music round, it is an invention of evil, especially the junk that normally gets played.  Although this week the monotony was lifted by the inclusion of The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

A disappointing evening, the four of us, "I'm a Teapot",  could only manage second place after being tied for first going into the last round.  I mean do you know what the most populous country in Africa is?  Now I do.

I have just completed the latest quiz from the BBC, I managed to score 63 / 75.  Which is not bad, even if I do say so myself.   I was let down by my lack of knowledge of England generally.  Anyway hopefully we can do as well or even better at Drouthy's tomorrow, then we may even win.

Nicola has just made her first publication, published today in Science:

"Conserved Genetic Basis of a Quantitative Plumage Trait Involved in Mate Choice"; Mundy, N.I.; Badcock, N.S.; Hart, T.; Scribner, K.; Janssen, K.; Nadeau, N.J.; Science; 19 March 2004; 303: 1870-1873.

I read a prepublication version but I have not seen the final text. Worth a look if you have an interest in such things. Otherwise, maybe not. Anyway I might have to have a nip at the weekend in celebration of Nicola's cleverness, even though she won't be here. Its the thought that counts isn't it, well any excuse really!

No news is good news right? I haven't really done anything of excitment to put here. I haven't even been to Drouthy Neebours pub quiz yet this month, I had better hurry up and get back so we might win again.
